Named after a nineteenth century Italian priest, St. John Bosco Children’s Center serves boys and girls, ages 6-13, through a long-term treatment program. The Center operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is the only one of its kind in Southern Illinois (south of Bloomington, IL) for children of this age group. It has provided a safe-haven to many hundreds of children since its inception on January 13, 1992. Typically, children are placed at St. John Bosco Children’s Center when they have been the victims of serious abuse and/or neglect or when they have an emotional condition that is too severe for them to succeed at home or a foster home or when there is just no family or foster home to care for them.
While at the Center, children receive: individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy as needed. During their stay children have access to healthcare, educational opportunities, recreational opportunities, properly balanced meals and receive the care and attention of dedicated, well-trained, professional staff.
The children also participate in daily art therapy. This unique therapy allows the children to express their feeling and emotions through artwork. Because the children participate in this activity daily, there is a great need for art supplies.
