Named after a nineteenth century Italian priest, St. John Bosco Children’s Center provides therapeutic residential care for up to 30 boys and girls, ages 6-18, who need to heal from trauma in their young lives. The center operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is the only treatment center in Southern Illinois for boys ages 6-11, and girls ages 6-18, who have severe emotional disturbances. It has provided a safe-haven to hundreds of children since its inception on January 13, 1992.
Typically, children are placed at St. John Bosco Children’s Center when they have been the victims of serious abuse and/or neglect or when they have an emotional condition that is too severe for them to succeed at home or a foster home or when there is just no family or foster home to care for them.
While at the Center, children receive: individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy as needed. During their stay, children have access to healthcare, educational opportunities, recreational opportunities, properly balanced meals and receive the care and attention of dedicated, well-trained, professional staff.
The children also participate in daily art therapy which encourages them to express their feelings and emotions through artwork. Because of the daily nature of this activity, there is a great need for art supplies. If you are interested in supporting this program please consider donating an item from our Amazon Wish List.
