Carterville, Ill. (August 5, 2026) Foster parenting doesn’t end when a child is welcomed into a home. It requires an ongoing network of support, resources and community to help families navigate the unique challenges of caring for children who have experienced trauma.
As the largest foster care agency in Southern Illinois, Caritas Family Solutions supports nearly 1,100 foster families caring for more than 1,400 children each year. To help ensure those families have the tools and connections they need to succeed, Caritas is hosting its fifth annual Resource Day on Aug. 7.
The free, day-long event connects foster families with local organizations offering services that strengthen family stability and child well-being. Attendees will have access to information on respite care, mental and physical health services, nutritional wellness and health screenings. Families can also shop a free yard sale stocked with clothing, household essentials, educational materials and food items.
“Caritas is committed to strengthening the social and emotional well-being of the families we serve. Resource Day is an extension of that mission,” Christian Matthews, Caritas Administrative Manager, said. “It provides families with a welcoming space to connect, receive support and access the resources they need. By bringing families together and offering meaningful assistance, Resource Day demonstrates our commitment to care, community and standing alongside them. It is a reminder that they are valued, supported and never alone.”
Resource Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Carterville Community Center. Community partners participating in the event include Accurate Biometrics, Community Health & Emergency Services, Dental Safari Company, YouthCare, The Restore Network and Southern Illinois Healthcare.
