Robb & Jill
Dear Expectant Parent,
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about our family!
We are Robb and Jill. We have been married for a little over six years and have been trying to grow our family for the past several years. We have two dogs, named Ham and Edgar (who we call Eggy), that live with us too. Robb’s father was part of an adoptive family, so when we found out we couldn’t have biological children, growing our family through adoption was a natural choice for us.
There are so many things that we are excited to experience with a child. Making sure that they are well loved and protected is the first priority, but we also want to make sure they have a life full of laughter and learning and growing as a person. We really enjoy going for walks in our neighborhood, hiking in the woods, and just relaxing in the back yard. We look forward to doing all of these with a child, as well as playing, visiting family, and exploring our community. We cannot wait to share everything we love to do and share our home and hearts with a child.
We have so much respect for expectant parents considering an adoption plan. We want you to feel supported and know that we are here to answer any questions you may have for us. We are hoping to have an open adoption, and to support whatever level of openness and contact you choose is best for you.
We hope our profile helps you feel you know us a little better. And we know you, like us, hope for only the best opportunity and life for your little one. We look forward to getting to know you more and wish you all the best.
Love,
Robb & Jill
Our Story
We first met through mutual friends while listening to local Irish folk music. We quickly realized we had a similar sense of humor and liked many of the same things. After dating for about four years, Robb and I got married at a small ceremony at a vineyard close to where we live now, surrounded by friends and family. Our dog Edgar served as our “Best Dog” and our nephew, Caleb, was the ring bearer. He had a brief moment of dropping the ring, which got a laugh out of everybody. We have now been married for six years, but it really feels like no time at all. We adopted a second puppy five years ago named Ham, who is a big part of our family.
We have been wanting to grow our family for quite a while. After realizing we could not have biological children, we thought adoption would be a great way to bring more love into our family. Robb’s father was adopted as a baby, so adoption is already a familiar part of our extended family’s history.
Robb works as a fire alarm technician and project manager. He loves hiking, visiting forests, and enjoys having fish aquariums. He also really loves cooking, especially any chance he gets to grill out on the patio. Some of his specialties include very good thin crust pizza, and very good tiramisu cake. Robb’s sense of humor is what first attracted me to him, and he does like to make silly faces sometimes to get a laugh.
Jill has worked in public libraries for many years and currently volunteers with the local Friends of the Library. Jill also enjoys hiking and the outdoors, and loves to visit petting zoos, farms, and anywhere else that has animals. Along with having a love of drawing, art, doing anything crafty, and books. Jill especially likes picture books and sharing them with children. We have already started a collection of some of our favorite ones that we can’t wait to share.
Our Pets
We have two dogs named Ham and Edgar. They are both Corgis and have very different personalities. Edgar is very sweet and athletic. Ham was born hard of hearing but has a huge personality. They both have become experts at begging for treats, especially when the grandparents come to visit. We love both our dogs and can’t imagine life without them. They go on hikes and trips with us often.
Extended Family
We live very close to Jill’s parents, and we visit them often. They like to come over and spoil the dogs. Our brother, sister-in-law and nephew, Caleb, visit us every summer and during the holidays. We also have a lot of extended family in Wisconsin, which is a day’s drive from us, including Robb’s mom, Patti, two sisters, two brother-in -laws, and three nieces. We visit them several times a year, as well as our Wisconsin friends. Our youngest niece, Zoe, just turned five this year, and is full of energy.
Our Home & Community
We live in a small to medium sized town in Illinois. We love that it is very close to several state parks and a large national forest, so there are a lot of great nature spots nearby. We also like that we are within driving distance to a city for museums and more cultural events. Our house is a large brick one-story home with four bedrooms on a quiet street. It has an easy open layout and an extra room that we can’t wait to turn into a playroom. We have a large, fenced backyard that we enjoy cooking out in and playing badminton and frisbee with the dogs in. We also planted flowers and have hummingbirds buzzing around in the summer, so we really enjoy sitting out there, and can’t wait to share it with a little one.
We are lucky to live in a neighborhood that is within walking distance of a park that has playground equipment and a walking path. We live close to several good schools. Our neighborhood has very little traffic and is made up of houses and a small pond. On weekends and evenings there are many people out walking, and kids riding bikes and scooters, and playing outside. Lots of parents are out with strollers. We walk our dogs every evening and enjoy that we mostly hear nature. We also like that there are often deer in the neighborhood, and it’s very peaceful. The town itself has a lot of seasonal events, including a Christmas parade that has lighted floats and horse drawn carriages. Nearby there are apple festivals, BBQ cook-offs, Big Foot festivals, and other entertainment. Our local library also does a great job of having programs and clubs for children, which we appreciate.
Parenting and Our Views on Openness
Our parenting philosophy is we can’t wait to get to know our child and learn from them what their interests and personality are. We plan to be very open with them about adoption and where they came from. And we want to help them grow and develop into whoever they were meant to be. We are open to whatever level of openness and communication the birth parents feel comfortable with. We feel it is our job to help the birth parent to always feel comfortable and confident with placing their child with us and entrusting us with such a gift and responsibility.
