Caritas Family Solutions received a $10,000 grant from Ameren Illinois to support the Focus on Kids Campaign, a fundraising effort that aims to renovate one wing of St. John Bosco Children’s Center, the agency’s residential treatment center for abused and neglected children. It is located in Belleville.
The grant funds were made available through the Ameren Cares program, which connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering. Chuck Mueller, senior director, Facilities Management of Ameren Illinois, said a key focus of this program is to partner with non-profit organizations to improve the quality of life in Ameren Illinois’ service territory.
“At Ameren Illinois we are committed to supporting organizations that make a difference in our community and Caritas Family Solutions is the epitome of this,” said Mueller. “This is the only facility of its kind in Southern Illinois, so we are proud to partner in their efforts to provide even more children with the strong support system they so desperately need.”
In addition to the grant, Ameren Illinois employees have completed two volunteer projects at St. John Bosco Children’s Center, saving the agency more than $2,300. A total of 25 volunteers spent 100 hours painting two separate wings at the Center as part of the renovation process.
The grant received from Ameren Illinois helped Caritas reach the 75% mark of the $200,000 Focus on Kids Campaign goal. The campaign was officially announced today with the hopes of raising the remaining amount by June 2016.
St. John Bosco is a residential children’s center serving abused and neglected children, ages 6-13, from throughout Southern Illinois. Caritas purchased the building housing the Center in October 2014 with plans to renovate and make Bosco a safe, home-like atmosphere for the children. The renovations and expansion of the Center will allow the agency to provide services to more children in need. The renovation plans also include creating a nonprofit collaborative where local nonprofits can share resources and services.
